Choosing a Custom Slug for Your Deeplink

Written by Bouncy Admin
Updated over 2 months ago

The slug is the custom part of your link URL that comes after the domain. For example, in bouncy.ai/my-link, the slug is my-link.

Slug Rules

Your slug must follow these rules:

  • 3–50 characters long

  • Letters, numbers, and hyphens only (a–z, A–Z, 0–9, -)

  • No consecutive hyphens (e.g., my--link is not allowed)

  • No leading or trailing hyphens (e.g., -my-link or my-link- are not allowed)

  • Must be unique — no other link on the same domain can use the same slug

Tips for Good Slugs

Keep it short and memorable

  • Good: bouncy.ai/instagram

  • Bad: bouncy.ai/follow-me-on-instagram-click-here-now

Make it descriptive

  • Good: bouncy.ai/summer-sale

  • Bad: bouncy.ai/x7k2m

Match your campaign or content

  • Good: bouncy.ai/tiktok-bio or bouncy.ai/spotify-playlist

Use hyphens to separate words

  • Good: bouncy.ai/my-portfolio

  • Bad: bouncy.ai/myportfolio (harder to read)

Custom Domains with Paths

If you're using a custom domain with the Path option (instead of Root), you'll have an additional sub-path field. For example:

  • Domain: links.yourbrand.com

  • Path: summer-campaign

  • Result: links.yourbrand.com/summer-campaign

Reserved Slugs

Some slugs are reserved by Bouncy for system use and cannot be used. If you try to use a reserved slug, you'll see an error message.

Changing a Slug After Creation

Slugs cannot be changed after a link is created. If you need a different slug:

  1. Create a new deeplink with your desired slug

  2. Copy over the settings from the old link (or use the Duplicate feature)

  3. Delete the old link to free up the original slug
