My Deeplink Isn't Redirecting -- What to Check

If your Bouncy deeplink is not redirecting users to the correct destination, there are several common causes and solutions to investigate.

Quick Checklist

Before diving into detailed troubleshooting, check the following:

  • Is your deeplink set to Active status?

  • Is the destination URL correct and reachable?

  • Has your plan's active link limit been reached?

  • Is the deeplink using a custom domain that is properly configured?

  • Has the deeplink been recently created or edited? (Changes may take a few moments to propagate.)

Common Causes and Solutions

1. Deeplink Is Not Active

Symptom: The link shows a "not found" or generic page instead of redirecting.

Solution: Go to the Deeplink Manager in your dashboard and check the status of your link. If it is paused or inactive, toggle it back to active.

2. Incorrect Destination URL

Symptom: The link redirects to the wrong page, or shows an error on the destination site.

Solution: Open your deeplink in the editor and verify the destination URL. Make sure it includes the full URL with https:// and does not contain typos.

3. Active Link Limit Reached

Symptom: Your deeplink stopped working after you created additional links.

Solution: Each plan has a limit on the number of simultaneously active links. If you have hit your limit, the oldest links may be deactivated. Check your plan limits on the Profile page under the Subscription section. You may need to deactivate other links or upgrade your plan.

4. Custom Domain DNS Issues

Symptom: Links on your custom domain are not redirecting, while links on bouncy.ai work fine.

Solution: Verify that your custom domain DNS records are correctly configured and pointing to Bouncy. Check the Custom Domains section in your dashboard for any verification warnings. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate.

5. Browser Cache

Symptom: You see an old version of the redirect or the link seems "stuck."

Solution: Clear your browser cache or try the link in a private/incognito window. Browsers can cache redirects aggressively.

6. Ad Blockers or Browser Extensions

Symptom: The link works for some users but not others.

Solution: Some ad blockers or privacy extensions may interfere with redirect tracking. Ask the affected user to try with extensions disabled or in a different browser.

7. Link Was Deleted

Symptom: The link returns a "not found" page.

Solution: Check your Deeplink Manager to see if the link still exists. If it was deleted, you will need to create a new one.

Testing Your Link

  1. Copy your deeplink URL.

  2. Open it in a private/incognito browser window to avoid cache issues.

  3. Verify that it redirects to the correct destination.

  4. Try it on a mobile device to test app-specific redirects (if applicable).
