Understanding Bounce Behavior: Aggressive vs Conservative vs Basic

Bounce behavior controls how your deeplink redirects visitors. The right choice depends on where you're sharing the link and what experience you want for your audience.

The Four Modes

Aggressive

The most forceful redirect method. Attempts multiple browser-switching techniques to open the destination in a native app.

How it works: When a visitor clicks the link from a social media in-app browser (like Instagram's or TikTok's built-in browser), Aggressive mode tries multiple methods to break out of that browser and open the content in the actual app or system browser.

Supported platforms: Snapchat, LinkedIn, Threads, WeChat, Instagram, Reddit, Discord, Facebook, X

Best for:

  • Social media bio links where you want maximum app-opening rates

  • Links shared in platforms with restrictive in-app browsers

  • When conversion rate matters more than user experience smoothness

Conservative (Default)

A balanced approach that only attempts browser switching in WebView or unknown browsers.

How it works: If the visitor is already in a standard browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.), it does a normal redirect. It only activates app-opening behavior when it detects the link was opened in an in-app browser.

Supported platforms: Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Threads, Facebook

Best for:

  • General-purpose links

  • When you want a good balance between app-opening and smooth experience

  • First-time users who aren't sure which mode to pick

Non-Meta Platforms

Optimized for advertising outside Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram).

How it works: Bypasses adult content warnings for non-Meta platforms. If a Meta user clicks the link, they're redirected to the Bouncy.ai homepage instead.

Supported platforms: Snapchat, LinkedIn, Reddit, X, Discord, WeChat

Best for:

  • Ad campaigns running on non-Meta platforms

  • Adult content links that need to avoid Meta's content policies

  • When your audience primarily comes from non-Meta sources

Basic Redirect

A simple HTTP redirect with no deep linking or app-opening logic.

How it works: Takes the visitor directly to the destination URL in whatever browser they're currently using. No attempt to open apps.

Best for:

  • Email campaigns

  • QR codes

  • Situations where maximum compatibility is needed

  • When you don't need app-opening behavior

Additional Feature: Alternate Back URL

When using Conservative or Basic Redirect mode, you can also set an Alternate Back URL. This captures visitors who hit the back button in their browser and redirects them to a landing page of your choice instead of going back.

This is not available with Aggressive or Non-Meta modes.

Changing Bounce Behavior

You can change the bounce behavior at any time by editing your deeplink. The change takes effect immediately on the next click.
