What Happens If My Card Expires?

If the credit or debit card on file for your Bouncy subscription expires, here's what to expect and how to keep your account in good standing.

What Happens When a Payment Fails

When your subscription renewal is due and the payment fails (due to an expired card, insufficient funds, or other issues):

  1. Stripe retries the payment — the payment processor will automatically retry the charge several times over a few days

  2. You receive email notifications — Stripe sends emails alerting you to the failed payment

  3. Your account enters a "past due" state — a red warning indicator appears on your Profile page showing that your subscription payment has failed

  4. Your features remain active temporarily — Bouncy doesn't immediately revoke your paid features, giving you time to update your payment method

How Long Do I Have to Fix It?

Stripe typically retries failed payments over a period of several days. If all retry attempts fail:

  • Your subscription may be cancelled automatically

  • Your account reverts to the Free plan

  • Extra links are deactivated (not deleted)

  • Custom domains are disconnected

  • Team members may lose access

Don't wait for retries to fail. Update your payment method as soon as you receive the first notification.

How to Update Your Payment Method

  1. Go to Profile in the sidebar

  2. Click Manage Billing to open the Stripe Customer Portal

  3. Under Payment methods, click Update or Add payment method

  4. Enter your new card details

  5. Save the changes

Once your payment method is updated, the next retry attempt should succeed. You can also manually trigger a payment in the Stripe Customer Portal.

See How to Update Your Payment Method for detailed instructions.

How to Avoid Payment Issues

Keep Your Card Updated

When you receive a new card (even if it's a replacement with the same number), update your payment method in Bouncy before the old card expires.

Enable Bank Notifications

Many banks can notify you before a card expires. Set up alerts so you have time to update.

Use a Card That Won't Expire Soon

When subscribing, consider using a card that has a long time until expiration.

Check Your Email

Stripe sends notifications about upcoming renewals and failed payments. Make sure emails from Bouncy and Stripe aren't going to your spam folder.

What If My Subscription Was Cancelled?

If your subscription was automatically cancelled due to failed payments, you can resubscribe at any time:

  1. Update your payment method

  2. Go to the Pricing page

  3. Select your plan and complete checkout

All your links and data will still be there — Bouncy doesn't delete anything when a subscription lapses.
