How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Bouncy.ai account. When enabled, you will need to enter a time-based code from an authenticator app every time you sign in, in addition to your password.

What You Need

  • A TOTP-compatible authenticator app installed on your phone. Popular options include:

    • Google Authenticator

    • Authy

    • Microsoft Authenticator

    • 1Password

  • Access to your Bouncy.ai account.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Navigate to 2FA Settings

  1. Log in to your Bouncy.ai account.

  2. Click Profile in the left sidebar.

  3. Scroll down to the Two-Factor Authentication section.

  4. The current status will be shown as a badge: either "Enabled" (green) or "Not enabled" (red).

2. Start the Setup

  1. Click the Enable Two-Factor Authentication button.

  2. If your login session is not recent enough, you will be asked to re-authenticate:

    • Email/password users: Enter your current password and click Continue.

    • Google sign-in users: Complete the Google sign-in popup.

3. Scan the QR Code

  1. A QR code will appear on screen. Open your authenticator app and scan this code.

    • The entry will be labelled Bouncy.ai with your email address.

    • If you cannot scan the QR code, click the manual entry key displayed below it and enter it into your authenticator app manually. You can copy it using the copy button.

4. Verify Your Setup

  1. Your authenticator app will now display a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds.

  2. Enter the current 6-digit code into the verification field.

  3. Click Verify & Enable.

5. Save Your Recovery Codes

  1. After successful verification, a dialog will appear showing 8 recovery codes in XXXX-XXXX format.

  2. Save these codes immediately. You will need them if you ever lose access to your authenticator app.

  • Click Copy to copy all codes to your clipboard.

  • Click Download to save them as a text file named bouncy-recovery-codes.txt.

  1. Check the box that says "I have saved my recovery codes in a safe place".

  2. Click Continue to finish the setup.

You will see a green confirmation message: "Two-factor authentication has been enabled!"

Important Notes

  • Each recovery code can only be used once. After using a recovery code, it is permanently consumed.

  • Store your recovery codes in a secure location, separate from your authenticator app (e.g., a password manager or a printed copy in a safe place).

  • You will be prompted for a 2FA code every time you sign in to Bouncy.ai.
