Changing a Team Member's Role

Written by Bouncy Admin
Updated this week

As a team Owner, you can change the role of any team member to adjust their permissions. This guide explains how to promote or demote team members.

Who Can Change Roles?

Only the Owner can change team members' roles.

  • Owners can promote Members to Admins

  • Owners can demote Admins to Members

  • Admins and Members cannot change anyone's role

How to Change a Role

Step 1: Open Team Management

Navigate to Team in the sidebar to view your members table.

Step 2: Find the Member

Locate the team member whose role you want to change.

Step 3: Open the Context Menu

Click the actions button (three dots or context menu icon) next to the member's name.

Step 4: Select Change Role

Click Change Role from the context menu. You'll see the available role options:

  • Admin — elevated permissions for team management

  • Member — standard access for everyday use

Step 5: Confirm the Change

Select the new role and confirm. The change takes effect immediately.

What Changes When a Role Changes

Promoting Member to Admin

When you promote a Member to Admin, they gain the ability to:

  • Invite new team members

  • Remove Members from the team

  • Access team management features

  • View the activity log

Their role badge changes from green (Member) to blue (Admin).

Demoting Admin to Member

When you demote an Admin to Member, they lose the ability to:

  • Invite or remove team members

  • Access team management settings

  • Some administrative functions

Their role badge changes from blue (Admin) to green (Member).

Demoting an Admin does not remove them from the team — it only reduces their permissions.

Can I Change the Owner?

The Owner role is fixed and cannot be changed through the standard role change process. The Owner is the person who created the team (or the account holder).

If you need to transfer ownership, contact Bouncy support for assistance.

Tips

  • Promote carefully — Admins can invite new members and remove existing Members, so only promote people you trust

  • Start as Member — when inviting someone new, assign the Member role first. You can always promote later.

  • Changes are instant — there's no confirmation email or delay. The person's permissions update the moment you change their role.

  • Communicate changes — let team members know when their role changes so they understand their new permissions
