Browser assist is a backup for visitors who open your 18+ deeplink inside an app's built-in browser (Instagram, Threads, Facebook, Messenger, TikTok, Snapchat, Telegram and others). A few seconds after your warning page loads, if the visitor is still on it, a small popup explains how to open the page in their real browser. When they do, they land straight on your destination.
Note: Browser assist is off unless you switch it on, and each deeplink has its own setting. It only applies to deeplinks with the adult content warning enabled. See Adult Content Checkpoint if you have not set that up yet.
Why It Exists
Most visitors who tap Yes, I'm 18+ inside an app are handed to Safari or Chrome automatically. Some are not, and on TikTok and Facebook the visitor always has to do one step themselves. Without help, those visitors sit on the warning page with nothing to do. Browser assist shows them exactly what to tap.
How to Turn It On
Open the deeplink (or create a new one) and make sure the Adult Content Warning toggle is on
In the Warning Page Design card, switch on Browser assist
Choose when the popup should appear: 3 seconds by default, or 5, 8 or 10
Click See how it works to preview the popup in the design you picked
Save the deeplink
The change applies on the visitor's next visit. Nothing needs republishing.
What Visitors See
The popup uses the colours and fonts of the warning design you chose, so it looks like part of your page. It says "Didn't work?" and points at the app's own menu button in the top corner.
Device | What the popup offers |
iPhone | The app's menu route ("Tap ⋯ then Open in external browser"), plus a Press and hold here button. Holding it opens the page in Safari or Chrome. |
Android | The app's menu route ("Tap ⋮ then Open in browser"). Android in-app browsers have no press-and-hold option, so no button is shown. |
Visitors can close the popup and stay on the warning page. Once they open the page in their real browser, it continues straight to your destination without asking them to confirm their age again.
When It Shows
Browser assist appears only when all of these are true:
The visitor is on a phone, inside an app's built-in browser
Your warning page has been open for the delay you chose
The visitor is still on the page (if the link already opened in their real browser, the popup never appears)
It never appears on desktop, or on a phone that is already using Safari, Chrome or another normal browser. Deeplinks without the toggle behave exactly as before.
Choosing a Delay
The default of 3 seconds suits most links: long enough for a normal handoff to complete, short enough that a stuck visitor is not left waiting. Pick a longer delay if you prefer the popup to feel less eager, for example on pages with a lot to read.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it change my link for desktop visitors? No. Desktop visitors never see the popup and the warning page works exactly as before.
Does the visitor still confirm their age? Yes. The warning page and its Yes, I'm 18+ button stay exactly as they are, and that is where the popup appears. After the visitor opens the page in their real browser, it continues to your link.
Which warning designs support it? All of them. The popup adapts to each of the 12 designs, including your customised colours on the designs that allow them. See Choosing an Adult Warning Page Template.
Can I see how often it is used? The popup reports to the same tracking as the rest of the handoff engine. A per-link view of these numbers is planned for the Opened in browser card.
Which plans include it? Browser assist is available on every plan.
